Apparel MED, the Medical division of Apparel Supply, was developed in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
In March 2020, at the outbreak of Covid 19, we readapted our manufacturing skills, from sportswear to the production of reusable barrier masks. What was initially a social project supplying free to Nursing Homes and Health Services, soon after changed to a commercial venture. From our many years experience of materials within our Industrial division, we had a very clear understanding of what materials were best suited to protect against viral infections, allowing us to quickly develop barrier mask solutions, which were independently tested against EN specifications, Swift 19, and CE marked.
We are also planning to open a new Medical Surgical Mask production facility in early 2021, supporting the indigenous supply of critical medical products to our front line workers. This is a significant project, requiring investment in new equipment, facilities and employing over 25 new staff . We are also planning to significantly invest in the redevelopment of our reusable barrier mask production line, sustaining current employment.
The Apparel MED project will consist of a new R&D facility and team , working with a business development team, in the research and development of other indigenous medical product solutions. Our immediate objective is to support indigenous needs, and at a later stage for export markets.
In response to Covid 19 we very quickly readapted our skills, equipment and facility, with the support and partnership of a number of our business service providers, including Enterprise Ireland, Local Enterprise Office, Intertrade Ireland and Ulster Bank.
We would also like to thank our many customers and supporters who assisted us in the supply of free barrier mask to Nursing Homes and Health services.
